Custom Sheet Metal Bending Services

At Chicago Metal Rolled Products we are best known for our capacity to bend structural steel and plate, since we have been rolling sheet metal steel since 1908. (Very generally speaking, 1/8" and thicker is plate, less than 1/8" is sheet.)

We use specialized equipment to transform rolled sheet metal into lock-seam pipe, welded pipe, and open-butt-joint pipe. We work with carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, and alloy materials. Additionally, both galvanized and painted sheet can benefit from custom sheet metal bending services.

Sheet Metal Bending Capacity:

Thickness Diameter Max Length
Lock-Seam Pipe, 16-24 gauge 3" to 14" 10'
Welded Pipe, 12-18 gauge 3" to 48" 12'
Cylinder Segments, 12-28 gauge         3" and up      12'

Chicago Metal Rolled Products can produce full cylinders (360°) or cylinder segments from curved sheet metal from 12 to 28 gauge. We can deliver cylinders and cylinder segments up to 12’ long.

Our custom sheet metal bending services can produce rolled sheet metal pipes and cylinders in diameters from 3” to 12’ and beyond.

We can also use our custom metal sheet bending capabilities to bend sheet metal into full cones and cone segments, as well as helically.

At Chicago Metals we can also use our custom sheet metal bending capabilities to bend perforated, flattened and expanded sheet.

Custom Sheet Metal Bending Value-Added Services

Customers often require angle rings with their rolled sheet metal pipes/tubes; we can provide these rings either loose or attached to the pipe ends. Angle rings are usually welded to the pipe, but can also be Van Stone flanged. (Van Stone flanges are made by slipping angle rings over the pipe ends, which are then flared out.) When bolted together, Van Stone flanges provide an excellent seal.

Chicago Metal Rolled Products can add extra value to your custom sheet metal bending service by welding your curved sheet metal via MIG, TIG, track, or submerged arc methods. Cylinders can be welded end to end with circumferential MIG, TIG, track, or submerged arc welding.

We can add additional value to your custom sheet metal bending service by drilling, punching, and polishing your curved metal cylinders/cylinder segments, either before rolling or after, depending on project requirements.

Curved Sheet Metal Applications

Curved sheet metal has an almost limitless number of custom sheet metal bending applications. Common uses include:

  • Ductwork for ventilation and pneumatic transfer of material
  • Machine guards and other machine components
  • Architectural applications like column covers, wall coverings and downspouts
  • Filters made from curved perforated sheets
  • Tank bodies
  • and many more
