Rolling Steel Plate Cones for the Environment

Recently we were contacted by a customer for a very difficult steel plate rolling job. They required steel cone sections to be rolled for a scrubber system that was being added to a coal power plant. It is a green initiative that is supposed to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by up to 90%, as well as greatly reduce nitrogen oxide and mercury pollution by the plant.

This particular cone section went from a very tight minor radius of 1’ 3” to a larger major radius of almost 9’. The height of the cone was 7’ 8”. This gave us a slant height of almost 11’. Several special tooling adjustments were required in order to be able to roll the cone with that slant height to that great a variance of  minor and major diameter.
