The request was for 15ea. 8in outside diameter aluminum pipe rolled to an 83ft 7in center-line radius 15ft long and for 9 more rolled aluminum pipes to a 47ft 11in centerline radius 15 ft. long. And the customer wanted the aluminum segments to be shipped to Chicago’s McCormick Place. We asked what all this was for.
The answer: When the NATO summit is held in Chicago May 20 and May 21, some 2000 of the media will be corralled in one section of the huge convention hall. In the media lounge, the hosts wanted a display that promoted the city: “Experience Chicago.”
Since the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park has become such an icon of the city, they wanted to erect a mini trellis for the display. And since we had rolled 570 tons of steel for the original trellis, they turned to us to make a smaller 5000lb replica.
