  • The bending of beams the hard way (x-x axis) is usually measured from the inside edge to determine the radius or diameter.
  • If desired, however, we can hold the dimensions to other points.  Please specify your requirement clearly.
  • We are regularly bending all sizes of beams up to and including W44 x 290#  jumbo beams both the easy way (y-y axis) and the hard way (x-x axis).  We can also do beam bending up to W36 x 848# the easy way (y-y axis).
  • The bending of beams requires the right machinery and the right methods.  With more experience than anyone else in the country in steel beam bending, Chicago Metal is the company to call for your requirements.  The company keeps accurate and detailed records of the minimum radius for each size beam.  Engineers, architects and fabricators call us every day on such topics in their design phase
  • Our beam bending capacity allows for bending of beams and shipping of beams up to 105 feet long.

Beam bending to extraordinarily tight radii is one of our specialties: a W6 x 12 beam bent the hard way to a 14 inch inside radius with no distortion; a W16 x 57 beam bent the hard way to an 8 ft. 6in. inside radius; a W24 x 104 beam bent the hard way to a 44 ft. inside radius; and a W30 x 124 bent the hard way to a 56 ft. 9 in. inside radius.  Only a few companies in the world can do steel beam bending of these sections this tight.  And this bending is done cold, not with the heat induction method which is typically more expensive and slower.

Because we have a wide variety of beam bending machines, we can minimize trim (the straight sections on the end of curved sections) thereby saving money in material, rolling cost, and shipping costs.  Please consult with our project managers on the most economical methods for your steel beam bending.
