Pritzker Pavilion Trellis, Millennium Park, Chicago, IL
Chicago Metal's advice about bending pipe was followed by Frank Gehry and Skidmore Owings and Merrill in designing the trellis for the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago's Millennium Park.
12, 14, 16, 18, and 20in OD pipe was bent to multiple radii, with no distortion or even scratches to snag a fingernail.
The pipe bending of 570 tons of steel was done with such precision that the structural steel fabricator, the erector, and the general contractor all remarked how "the trellis pieces went together so well."
An unsightly parking lot was put underground in Chicago and Millennium Park was created.
